Where Will AGI Emerge? A Cognitive Expedition into the Future of Artificial Intelligence 🚀

The question of where artificial general intelligence (AGI) will emerge first is a race that has captivated the world's attention. AGI, an intelligence capable of performing all tasks like a human, and potentially excelling in many aspects, is on the brink of becoming a reality. The advancements in this domain are astonishing, and the world stands on the precipice of a revolution that could alter everything.

Dr. Alan D. Thompson, a distinguished AI expert, closely monitors the AGI's development. On his website, Life Architect.AI, he maintains a conservative countdown to AGI, documenting the milestones and justifications for progress in this field. The latest developments indicate that we are already 54% along the path to AGI, with remarkable advancements from Google Deep Mind Robotics Transformer RT-2, Anthropic Claude 2, and LLaMA.

The Pioneers of AGI

The world of AGI is full of innovations and breakthroughs. Companies like Google, Microsoft, and DeepMind are at the forefront, pushing the boundaries of what's achievable. The Unitree H1, a humanoid robot, exemplifies how mobile technology has already become:

With a speed of 18 km/h (a person runs at an average of 10 km/h) and good motor balance, it is a "fast" fellow. Equipped with a lot of skills, know-how and - lots of cameras for optimal orientation 🦾.

The Challenges of AGI

Despite the progress, challenges persist, as emphasized by Dr. Thompson in an interview with Financial Sense host Cris Sheridan. The 'hallucinations' of large language models and the issues of trustworthiness and reliability are just a few of the problems that need to be addressed. OpenAI now dedicates 20% of its computing power to the field of 'AI Alignment.' Masterbrain and Chief Science Officer Ilya Sutskever himself lead the team tasked with developing 'RLAIF'- reinforcement learning with AI feedback. Human trainers have simply become too slow, and most importantly, we humans are inherently biased... rigid value frameworks don't function well for us. We are diverse individuals and, therefore- beyond just a mathematical standpoint - unpredictable.

Conclusion

AGI, which stands for Artificial General Intelligence, is 'the hypothetical intelligence of a computer program that has the capacity to understand or learn any intellectual task that a human being can do.' (Wiki). It's more than just technological advancement; it's a paradigm shift that will alter how we live, work, and interact. The journey to AGI is exciting in many aspects, but also full of challenges and ethical considerations.

"The people crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do." Steve Jobs

With AGI as a new, ubiquitous stakeholder in our personal and professional spheres, we stand at the threshold of a new era of innovation and human advancement.

🎙️ Interview with Anthropic's CEO Amodei

So I'm not quite as sure as I was before that we're missing enough of the things that you would need. I think today's models just probably aren't smart enough that we should worry about this too much but I'm not 100% sure about this, and I do think in a year or two, this might be a very real concern.Let's say we discover that I should care about Claude’s experience as much as I should care about a dog or a monkey or something. I would be kind of worried. I don't know if their experience is positive or negative. Unsettlingly I also don't know I wouldn't know if any intervention that we made was more likely to make Claude have a positive versus negative experience versus not having one. 🧐

🌐 China, USA, NVIDIA, and LIMA: A Complex Struggle for Chips and Resources

In the rapidly evolving world of artificial intelligence (AI), China and the USA are leading the global race. With the increasing demand for NVIDIA's AI chips and the establishment of the Pentagon's Task Force LIMA, a complex and multifaceted landscape emerges.
